tiny Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Disco owners will flame me for this, but why on earth do you want one of those? The early ones were rubbish to drive, had dubious build quality and were expensive to fix when they went wrong. They are just about fit for dragging horseboxes around, not IMO a practical or desirable family car. We had an R plate at my previous employers and even though the build quality was improved over earlier examples I still couldn't recommend on as a daily runabout. They weren't any good until the TD5 came out and thats way out of the price range your looking at. Quote
mumof4 Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 mmmmmm...i do like the vauxhall Sintra aswell, been looking at them, guess im trying to widen my horizons so to speak. why a disco? i like the look of them.May not get one, just trying to think of different things, i def dont want a serena, nor an espace, I need something that can stand a lot of driving and going over a very rough road to the flying field. i am also trying to work out petrol vs diesel mpg vs the extra for diesel, considering i cover a lot of miles, i need something that isnt gonna fall apart on me and can fit all the brood and my plane and pooch.but i do need at least 6 seats. tdi90 Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 I would'nt recommend a discovery. We had a 1999 4ltr V8 auto as a courtesy car for a month. Driver and front passenger have loads of room, but the back seat is a joke for leg room! The small rear doors combined with the rear wheel arches make it a right pain in the ar** to get in and out of the back, even more so if you have to put the kids in car seats. The 2 rear seats were front facing folding jobbies that would be fine for kids, but then theres no boot space. A mate of mine has an L reg TDi disco auto which he has converted over fully to veg oil. That has the 2 rear seats facing each other, which is good for space, but not as comfy as the newer discos. His returned awful fuel economy for a diesel (hence the veg oil) I reckon if you could find a half decent looking disco for Quote
tdi90 Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Lwb Nissan terrano or ford maverick? Big jap 4x4? Quote
mumof4 Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 thanks for the info guys, i really do appreciate, as you know that all i know is the galaxy as ive done nothing with the veccy. and she was a panik buy!.This time id like to be more aware, and fully informed. It was actually suggested to me to get a diesel disco and convert to bio or veg.I certainly do like the size of them!..for me, its purely cosmetic.LOL. will have a look at those two tdi90, mucho appreciated. tiny Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Well done in deciding against a serena, Slooooooooooow, infact I think it was awarded the title of slowest accelerating mpv or some such title by the motoring press. Anyhow its a van with seats not a car! Sintra? There is a very good reason why the sintra was only on the market for 3 years, it was sh1te! Actually a GM Voyager or something, made for the US market and rebadged for the unsuspecting UK public. Why are you prepared to look at the sharan or alhambra but say you dont want a mk1 Gal'? They Mk1 probably represents the best value for money as the sharans do command better residuals (slightly) due to elitist badge worshipers :) and the seat was a later release. The only major difference in those cars being the 2.0/2.3 petrols being ford units in the Gal and the 1.8/2.0 shalambra having VAG motors. Of course if your doing 200 miles pw for school, then there's little point in looking at petrol MPV's because you'll be crying all the way to the petrol station! Lool, I think this ticks all your boxes ebay 300206402410 Quote
